# Cannot start Stardog server

Hello, installed Stardog using **Homebrew**. When I start the server I get the following output:

```
/usr/local/bin/stardog-admin: line 153: 56778 Killed: 9

```

**stardog.log** shows the following:  
INFO 2020-11-05 15:22:02,300 [main] com.complexible.stardog.StardogLicense:main(405): Checking for valid license...  
INFO 2020-11-05 15:22:02,308 [main] com.complexible.stardog.StardogLicense:main(411): No license found  
INFO 2020-11-05 15:22:58,600 [main] com.complexible.stardog.StardogLicense:main(405): Checking for valid license...

I went through the steps for getting a trial license...

System specs:  
MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2)

Java:  
openjdk version "1.8.0\_262"  
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (AdoptOpenJDK)(build 1.8.0\_262-b10)  
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (AdoptOpenJDK)(build 25.262-b10, mixed mode)

Stardog 7.4.3

Hi Nicolas,

Welcome to the Stardog Community. Sorry to hear you're having some problems getting started. Did you define a `$STARDOG_HOME` directory [1]? If so, can you navigate to that directory and check and see if you see a `stardog-license-key.bin` file there?

Hi Noah, thanks for the reply. Yes, I did define a `$STARDOG_HOME` and there's a `stardog-license-key.bin` in it.
